Pre-Employment Testing

The Fire Science Training Center at Indian River State College now offers the National Firefighter Selection Inventory and Treasure Coast Physical Agility Test (TC-PAT) pre-employment examinations through a collaborative agreement with the Treasure Coast Fire Chiefs Association.  Individuals who successfully complete both assessments will be placed on an employment elligibility list for local agencies.
 
National Firefighter Selection Inventory

The NFSI is a computerized test that contains both cognitive and behavioral orientation components.

Test length: 2 ½ hours / 155 questions.

You are required to pay a fee of $40.00 for the NFSI test.

Your paid receipt and your driver's license are required for entrance into the exam. No one will be admitted if either of these documents is missing. All testing will be held at the Treasure Coast Public Safety Training Complex in the Vernon Smith Building, Room 203.

Test Day Procedures

  • Be present at 8:30 for the 9:00 a.m. test. No one admitted to the testing area after 9:00 a.m.
  • Be present at 1:00 for the 1:30 p.m. test. No one admitted to the testing area after 1:30 p.m.
  • If you are late, you will not be able to take the test that day.
  • Drivers license and paid receipt are required for admittance
  • No personal items will be allowed in the testing area, including newspapers, backpacks, books, hats, purses, electronic equipment, cell phones, beverages, etc.
  • What to bring: t-shirt (non offensive writing), long pants, running shoes, gloves (baseball or workout with fingers covered) and water.
