The NFSI is a computerized test that contains both cognitive and behavioral orientation components.

You are required to pay a fee of $40.00 for the NFSI test.
Your paid receipt and your driver's license are required for entrance into the exam. No one will be admitted if either of these documents is missing. All testing will be held at the Treasure Coast Public Safety Training Complex in the Vernon Smith Building, Room 203.
Test Day Procedures
- Be present at 8:30 for the 9:00 a.m. test. No one admitted to the testing area after 9:00 a.m.
- Be present at 1:00 for the 1:30 p.m. test. No one admitted to the testing area after 1:30 p.m.
- If you are late, you will not be able to take the test that day.
- Drivers license and paid receipt are required for admittance
- No personal items will be allowed in the testing area, including newspapers, backpacks, books, hats, purses, electronic equipment, cell phones, beverages, etc.
Task number one:
The candidate will upon permission from the evaluator don a 25 pound vest. The candidate may complete a 30 second warm up on the step mill prior to the timed test beginning.
Task number two:
The candidate will then step on the step mill. The proctor will start the stair mill. When a rate of 60 steps per minutes has been obtained, the candidate's time will start. The candidate will then climb the stair master for two minutes. The candidate may not use the hand rails during the timed test. One warning notice will be given. The second notice of violation will result in disqualification of the candidate. The evaluator will notify the candidate when their time is up and move to task number three.
Task number three:
The candidate will raise a bracketed 24 foot fire department two-section extension ladder from the ground against the building. The Candidate will then extend a bracketed 24 foot extension ladder to full extension and lower it. This will end task number four.
Task number four:
After completion of task number three, the candidate will walk back to the apparatus and using proper lifting technique remove the positive pressure ventilation fan from the compartment and set it on the ground. The candidate will then wheel the PPV fan fifty (50) feet to a designated location and then simulate starting the fan by pulling the start cord three times. This will end task number five.
Task number five:
After completion of task number four, the candidate will walk back to the apparatus and remove the hydraulic cutting and spreading tools from the side compartment. Using proper lifting and carrying techniques, take tools to an area fifty (50) feet from the tailboard of the apparatus. The candidate will lift each tool one at a time and place them in a designated elevated cabinet. The candidate will proceed to task number six.
Task number six:
After completing task number five, the candidate will walk back to the truck and pick up a charged 1.75” hose line and using an across the body hose drag, drag the hose 75 feet, and place the hose on the ground. The candidate will proceed to task number seven.
Task number seven:
After completing task number six, the candidate will walk directly to the 17” black corrugated pipe and traverse the pipe from one end to the other retrieving a pass device at one end of the pipe. The candidate will pass the pass device to the proctor. The candidate will proceed to task number eight.
Task number eight:
After completing task number seven, the candidate will immediately walk to where the 175 pound manikin is. The manikin is in full turnout gear. The candidate using safe and proper lifting and carrying techniques lift, carry or drag the manikin seventy five (75) feet. The task will stop when the feet of the manikin cross the line. The manikin is not allowed to completely leave the ground. The candidate will proceed to task number nine.
Task number nine:
After immediately completing task number eight, the candidate will remove their helmet and gloves, pick up a bag valve mask and apply it to the manikin and perform rescue breathing for 30 seconds. The 30 seconds will start when the first breath is given. The evaluator will call time when the thirty seconds is up
