National Preparedness Institute

Innovation and entrepreneurism are nothing new to Indian River State College. These guiding principles again emerge with the launch of the National Preparedness Institute, Florida's banner center for homeland security, defense and public safety professional development.

Through a partnership with Workforce Florida, Inc., the Treasure Coast Public Safety Training Complex at Indian River State College was named the Employ Florida Banner Center for Homeland Security and Defense in 2008. Since that time, IRSC has become a statewide, industry-driven leader focused on education and training in the public service sectors of law enforcement, homeland security, fire, emergency management, legal assisting and human services.

As a result of the success of the IRSC/Banner Center initiative, the National Preparedness Institute (NPI) was launched in July of 2012. Critical to the success of NPI is partnerships among workforce, government, education, industry and economic development. Through direct input from Florida businesses and public safety agencies, NPI develops and coordinates educational and training resources to boost the knowledge, skills and abilities of public safety providers.

The mission of the National Preparedness Institute is to enhance the readiness of public service professionals through education, training and consulting services.
