Fire Academy

The Indian River State College Basic Recruit Fire Academy is certified by the Bureau of Firefighter Standards and Training.
 
The Fire Academy oversees both the Basic Recruit Academy and Pre-Employment Testing for the Treasure Coast area agencies. From your initial testing for the academy application process to required agency hire testing, IRSC has the classes and resources for your new career opportunity.

FPAT

Firefighter Physical Agility Test (FPAT)
 
You MUST have your NREMT Certificate or have the date for taking the NREMT test,
before you can apply for the FPAT and the Fire Academy.
 
The Firefighter Physical Agility Test (FPAT) is designed to challenge participants with a simulation of real-life situations that a firefighter will face. It is packaged in a three-day program.  The first two days are practice, and the third day is the test.

CLOSED - Additional FPAT Practice and Test - CLOSED
 
An additional two-day FPAT practice and one-day test has been scheduled here at the Treasure Coast Public Safety Complex, for October 6, 7, and 13.  The October 6 and 7 dates are for practice, with the test to be held on October 13.
 
To complete the registration, you will first need to fill out and submit a brief application.  After successfully submitting, you will also need to do the following:
  • Complete a Medical Waiver
  • Complete a Drug Screening
  • Set up an account to pay
Information for the above 3 items will be emailed to you after your submission.
 
Please dress in long pants, a T-shirt, and sneakers for both practice and testing.
