The Associate of Science degree in Social and Human Services prepares beginning Human Services Workers for careers in a wide variety of human services settings including children’s service agencies, state attorneys’ offices, substance abuse facilities, domestic abuse shelters, juvenile intervention programs, social service agencies, and mental health facilities. Students learn techniques and strategies to assist clients in identifying problematic behavior and promoting positive personal growth and will acquire both theoretical as well as practical expertise in the Human Services field. Classroom skill-building exercises further facilitate the development of skills, and a Human Services Internship provides actual real-world work experience. 

This program is designed to prepare students to demonstrate the following program outcomes:
  1. Communicate knowledge of basic human services skills and theories through written or oral form.
  2. Demonstrate an understanding of causes and methods of treatment for problematic behaviors.
  3. Identify the ethical roles and professional responsibilities of human services workers.
  4. Apply appropriate helping skills and techniques in simulated or internship related scenarios.​
