Indian River State College's School of Continuing Education and Fire Academy offer multiple advanced fire courses in partnership with specialized companies. You must be a certified firefighter to take these courses.

FLUSAR Rope Rescue Operations
 
This advanced fire 40-hour course introduces the rescue professional to the skills and equipment necessary to safely and efficiently resolve situations that require the use of rope and related equipment. This course meets or exceeds the general requirements for NFPA 1670 Standard on Operations and Training for Technical Rescue Incidents, Awareness and Operations Level for Rope Rescue. You must be a certified firefighter to take this course.

FLUSAR Rope Rescue Technician 
 
This advanced fire 40-hour course is designed to train rescuers in high-angle rescue recovery. This course meets and exceeds NFPA 1006 Chapters 5 & 6.2. The student will be trained in troubleshooting areas, rope systems, anchor systems, raise/lower techniques, stoke basket operations, high line operations, pick-off techniques, knot passing, and rope theory. Emphasis will be placed on safety, raising, lowing patient packaging, belay operations, as well as moving a victim in high-angle environments.

FLUSAR Trench Rescue Ops & Tech
 
This advanced fire 40-hour course meets or exceeds the general requirements of NFPA 1670 "Standard on Operations and Training for Technical Rescue Incidents," Trench Rescue, Awareness, Operations, and Technician Level. Regulations and standards outlined in OSHA 1926, and NFPA 1006, "Standard for Rescue Technician Professional Qualifications," Trench Rescue will be explained and applies. This program will address: Scene Management and implementation of trench rescue emergency action plan; collapse indicator recognition and scene safety surveys; atmospheric testing & monitoring, ventilation, and de-watering operations; shoring system construction and installation, including lumber screw-jacks, and pneumatic systems; construction of load stabilization systems; intersecting trench rescue operations; patient access, packaging, and extrication techniques.

Aerial Operations ATPC 703
 
This advanced fire course includes classroom lecture and plenty of practical exercises are conducted in the principles of hazards which may be present during aerial operations. This course will include exercises in the principles, safe use, and tactical placement of aerial apparatus.

FFP 1301 - Fire Protection Hydraulics & Water Supply
 
This advanced fire course provides a foundation of theoretical knowledge in order to understand the principles of the use of water in fire protection and to apply hydraulic principles to analyze and to solve water supply problems. In addition, the curriculum covers pump theory, pump rating, and pressure and vacuum gauges. You must be a certified firefighter to take this course.

FFP 1302 - Apparatus Operations
 
This advanced fire course covers the laws, rules, and driving techniques for emergency vehicles. There will be a practical portion of this course that includes fire ground evolutions using pre-connected lines, tandems pumping, drafting, relays, and master streams. Students must bring gloves and proper attire for water pumping exercise. After successful completion of this course and FFP 1301, students will be eligible to take the State Pump Operator certification exam through the Florida State Fire College. You must be a certified firefighter to take this course.

Advanced Rescue & Survival School
 
This advanced fire course is a three-day program designed for firefighters and company officers who desire a high paced, data-driven, and realistic training program focused on self-rescue, firefighter survival, aggressive and proactive RIT/RIC operations, maintaining situational awareness, and understanding the psychology and physiology of a firefighter mayday. You must be a certified firefighter to take this course.

Live Fire Training Instructor
 
This course is designed to deliver a comprehensive live-fire training program, within a safe and controlled environment, in accordance with NFPA 1402, NFPA 1403, and NFPA 1500. Both lectures and practicals will be used allowing participants to apply knowledge of the above standards to training activities. 
 
Pre-requisite: FFII certified and current Fire Service Instructor 1
